The VeggieTales Media Universe is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on several films and series produced by DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures, Big Idea Reimagined Studio, and Kingstone Studios, and based on several shows and characters created by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, The franchise will also include comic books. The franchise will begin with live shows, songs from the upcoming Music cd, the podcast series, and will include a films and tv series based on both VeggieTales, 3-2-1 Penguins!, and The Slugs & Bugs Show.
Development
On June 29, 2021, Phil Vischer announced that he and Mike Nawrocki were no longer working on VeggieTales due to pay disputes and creative differences. Big Idea currently exists as an in-name-only unit, according to Vischer. When DreamWorks was bought by Universal, TBN requested a license to produce a brand-new VeggieTales revival series, The VeggieTales Show. There are also talks among Universal about making another VeggieTales movie. Current VeggieTales episodes are still branded as Big Idea. However, on August 2024, Big Idea was announced that it will be relaunched as Big Idea Reimagined Studio, run by SDA Pastor Alberto José Montes' son Fernando Montes, and Martin Luther King III's daughter Yolanda Renee King. On September 2024, Fernando Montes revealed that DreamWorks and Universal are developing a shared universe centered on characters created by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki. The franchise, called the "VeggieTales Media Universe", will start with live shows, songs from the upcoming Music cd, the podcast series, and will include a films and tv series based on both VeggieTales, 3-2-1 Penguins!, and The Slugs & Bugs Show. It’ll re-welcome the original creators, Phil Vischer, Mike Nawrocki, Lisa Vischer, and Kurt Heinecke. It’ll also welcome NBC's "Parks and Recreation" and Disney/Pixar's "Inside Out" star, Amy Poehler, as a Co-Producer and Co-Executive Producer, Fox's Glee Music Producer and Vocal Arranger, Tim Davis.

Films
Untitled 'LarryBoy' film (2026)
An upcoming LarryBoy film will be made by Big Idea and Kingstone Studios, Produced by DreamWorks Animation, Distributed by Universal Pictures, set to be released in 2026. However, there's no official release date yet.
This will be the third feature-length VeggieTales movie, after 2002's Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie and 2008's The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie.
Phil Vischer has confirmed in a tweet that he will return as the co-director of the upcoming film, and Mike Nawrocki will also return as the writer and director.
The original working title of the film was "LarryBoy Begins" as shown in a now deleted post on the official VeggieTales X account. A later post refers to the upcoming movie as simply "LarryBoy."
Other films
Untitled '3-2-1 Penguins!' film (2027)
A spin-off to an upcoming LarryBoy film will be made by Big Idea and Kingstone Studios, Produced by DreamWorks Animation, Distributed by Universal Pictures, set to be released in 2027. However, there's no official release date yet.
The Slugs & Bugs Movie (2027)
Another spin-off to an upcoming LarryBoy film will be made by Big Idea and Kingstone Studios, Produced by DreamWorks Animation, Distributed by Universal Pictures, set to be released in 2027. However, there's no official release date yet.
Untitled Fourth 'VeggieTales' film (2027)
Talks of the movie were first brought up when Phil Vischer got a call from Universal to possibly do another VeggieTales film, mainly thanks to an executive at Universal previously being an executive at Artisan Entertainment, which was the distributor of Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. Vischer is currently giving some story ideas for what the movie could possibly be about.
The movie was first teased by Phil Vischer on the same day that the revival series, The VeggieTales Show, was announced, with Vischer saying that Universal was developing it and further stating that DreamWorks will have no involvement in the movie.
Vischer later clarified that the movie isn't in production at the moment, and still has to find its funding before it can fully be made and put into the production pipeline. He also stated that it was most likely going to be based around a Bible story.
In 2020, Mike Nawrocki reaffirmed that a new VeggieTales movie was in development.
On June 29, 2021, Phil Vischer revealed on his Twitter that he, along with Lisa Vischer, Mike Nawrocki, and Kurt Heinecke, had been completely laid off by Universal from working on future VeggieTales-related projects. Most likely due to all of this, the film possibly got shelved.
In a tweet by Vischer, The film would have been about the Bible Story of Joseph.
On July 2024, the film was officially revealed to be un-scrapped and un-shelved, that it would re-launch Big Idea to save the company, and projected 2027 theatrical release, as the fourth VeggieTales movie, alongside the voice cast. However, there's no official release date yet.
