Asenath is the deuteragonist of the film Joseph: King of Dreams.

Personality

Asenath is a kind young woman who loves her family. She feels pity for Joseph when he is thrown in prison because she lowers a basket of food to him, and later falls in love with him. When Joseph is shown treating his brothers angrily, she is upset at this and asks why, and when Joseph explains why, she tries to reason with him. She later rejoices with Joseph when he and his brothers reconcile.

Role in the film

Asenath is the niece of Potiphar and Zuleika, and later Joseph's wife. She is also Potiphar's niece.

She is first seen with her sisters chasing her panicked cat, Akeila, around the room. When Joseph calms Akia down with a bowl of milk, she picks up her cat and thanks Joseph. Later, she is seen lowering food to Joseph, who is now imprisoned thanks to her aunt's lies, but a guard frightens her away before she can lower it all to the ground. When Joseph is freed from prison and given a new title, she is seen holding Akia, who runs out of the room after Joseph sets down a bowl of milk in the hallway. Joseph greets her, and they later marry.

Later, she helps Joseph save up the food and prepare for the oncoming famine. During this, she gives birth to two sons, Mannasah and Ephraim.

Afterward, she is seen standing with Joseph while he, Potiphar, and she hand out grain to people who need it. She is concerned about Joseph when she sees him upset, a result of seeing his brothers again. She is horrified when Joseph imprisons his brother Simeon and sends the rest of his brothers home to fetch Benjamin. Later, she asks Joseph why he did what he did. After finding out, she tries to persuade him that they might have changed over the past several years, but he doesn't listen.

Later when she finds his brothers being taken back to the palace, she is worried and asks why they were arrested.

When Joseph and his brothers reconcile, he introduces her to them, making her happy that all the trouble is over.

At the end of the film she is seen with her two sons and they are introduced to the rest of her husband's family.
