Christopher Crosby "Chris" Farley (February 15, 1964 - December 18, 1997) was an American comedian and actor who was known for his work on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1995. Farley was the original choice to voice Shrek in the first film, he had recorded 80 to 90% (or 95% according to Farley's brother Tom) of the dialogue for the character, but died just before completing the project. After Farley's death, he was replaced by Mike Myers to provide the voice of Shrek for the film. Farley was 33 years old.
