The Deathgrippers are a class of dragon. They secondary antagonists in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and minor characters in Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Background[]

Official Description[]

Deathgrippers are a monstrous species with their protruding tusks, foreclaw pincers, and poisonous clubbed tails. Traveling in packs like wild dogs, Deathgrippers enjoy hunting for prey and should be avoided at all costs.

Physical Appearance[]

The Deathgripper has a row of armored plates lining along their backs. They have a pair of long retractable tusks on their front lower jaws.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World[]

The Grimmel's Deathgrippers were introduced carrying Grimmel's airship to the Warlords' island. Upon reuniting with them, one of the dragons tackled Ragnar the Rock and was called off by Grimmel upon instruction. Later on, when Grimmel met Hiccup at his house, he was threatened by the Dragon Riders and summoned his Deathgrippers to burn down the house with their fiery acid.

Dragons: Rise of Berk[]

The Deathgripper became a playable Rare dragon. The known individuals are Grim Hornettle, Executie, Maelstrom, Defender Deathgripper, Death Knight, and Monarchic Murderfly.
