The Gods of El Dorado were an-named and unnumbered. However, there were two in particular, who like any supreme deity were revered eternal, all powerful and loving. They created to rich world and filled it with life and magic, as well as specifically the golden city of El Dorado, a paradise on earth for the living to enjoy.
But there were other gods, demanding blood sacrifices in rituals to herald the "Year of the Jaguar". Tzekal Kan was a fanatic who believed these prophciess closely. Miguel and Tulio's arrival was believed to be that of the gods. To most who believed the gods good, a blessing was seen. But to Tzekal Kan it was the time of murderous "purification". Realising the "gods" were false, He used dark magic to bring a Jaguar statue to life, reaping havoc in the city, leading to his supposed demise.
Later Cortez descovered Tzekal Kan, who saw Him as the "true" dark sacrificial god. After a failed attempt to enter the city to kill the civilians, after Miguel and Tulio destroyed the gate to El Dorado (resulting in the loss of all of they're gold), He was dragged away to an unkownn destiny, leaving our heroes to ride triumphantly into the sunset.
Besides the opening credits, the gods are not physically seen again through out the movie.
