Mr. "Grampa" TheCat is the secondary antagonist in the 2025 DreamWorks film, Dog Man. He is Petey's father.
Background[]
According to the film's director, Peter Hastings, Grampa's arrival brings chaos and frustration, often making a mess and criticizing Petey’s efforts. He remains a disruptive and critical presence, causing tension and stirring up old emotions.
Official Description[]
- An old and crotchety cat, Grampa is Petey's father and the reason the feline villain feels the need to lash out at the world.[1]
Physical Appearance[]
According to an art book, Grampa resembles his book version: a dark orange tabby cat with a beard and green transparent glasses. However, unlike in the books, where his beard is drawn with mere dots and lines, his movie incarnation includes a more, fleshed-out grey beard.
Role in the film[]
When Petey was a child, Grampa abandoned his son, Petey, and Petey's mother.
Later, he was brought to Petey's lab by 80-HD. When he was put down, he mistakes Li'l Petey for his father, Petey. Grampa comes in and makes a mess, and Petey asks Li'l Petey why he told 80-HD to bring him to the lab. Li'l Petey tells him he wanted Petey to have his dad back. Later, he spills Petey's supply of milk and doesn't care. Later after that, Grampa sits on a chair in front of the TV. When Li'l Petey tells Grampa that Petey is in danger. Grampa doesn't care. He is last shown driving off with everything Petey owns, leaving Petey's lab empty, except for Li'l Petey's comics.
