Grandma Rosiepuff is an old-age troll from the 2016 film Trolls. She is voiced by GloZell. She is the grandmother of Branch.

Background

Personality

Grandma Rosiepuff keeps young trolls safe so they can learn to let their true colors shine!

Appearance

Grandma Rosiepuff has purple skin, light green turquoise hair, and has light green eyes. Her lips and nose are the same teal color. She wears a knitted red and pink coat with sparkly pink hearts on it over her apricot cream dress.

Role in the film

Twenty-one years before the events of the film Trolls, Grandma Rosiepuff was hanging laundry on the clothesline. Her grandson, Branch, whom we see in the movie, was five at the time and was singing loudly, just like the other Trolls have loved to do for years. He was not far from where Grandma Rosiepuff was standing. It was Trollstice, and Chef was picking out a Troll to serve to a Bergen. She heard young Branch singing, which leads her to him. Branch had no idea that Chef was right behind him. Grandma Rosiepuff saw her and called out in terror for Branch to watch out. He was so lost in the song he didn't hear her. Eventually, he stopped singing and turned around, wondering why she was yelling at him. She ran up just in time to push Branch out of the way of Chef's hand that reached down to scoop him up. He fell off the tree and down to the ground, calling out, "Grandma?!" --But it was too late. Chef had grabbed his grandmother and carried her off. The last we hear from her are shrieks of fear and pain.

When Branch found out Grandma Rosiepuff was killed by being eaten, he blamed himself for not hearing her warnings. He was devastated and scarred for life, making his colors turn the gray-blue we see him as for most of the film. Since he lost his true colors when he was only five years old, he was without his true colors for most of his life. In the events of the film, Branch is 26.

Trivia

  • In the UK release of Trolls, Grandma Rosiepuff is voiced by English television presenter Susanna Reid.
  • Grandma Rosiepuff was surprisingly strong and fast to be able to push little Branch out of the way of Chef's clutches.
  • Her soothing songs can lull even the fussiest Troll into a calming nap.
  • It's possible and theorized that Grandma Rosiepuff's husband passed away before the Trolls' tree was caged by the Bergens, and Branch's parents sacrificed themselves to spare Grandma Rosiepuff and Branch's life from being eaten.
