  John Marwood Cleese (born October 27, 1939) is an English actor, comedian, producer, screenwriter and singer. He is best known for being a longtime member of the comedy troupe Monty Python alongside Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and the late Graham Chapman. He also co-wrote and starred in the BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers in which he played Basil Fawlty. He also starred in A Fish Called Wanda, Rat Race, Time Bandits and more.

For DreamWorks, Cleese performed the voice of King Harold in Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. He also co-wrote The Croods. He also did the voice of King Gristle Sr. in Trolls.
