Logo history[]
Main[]
In the original 1994 DreamWorks logo, the Moon Child throws the fishing hook into the waters from the moon.
In the 2004-2010 logo, the Moon Child uses a bunch of balloons to fly up into the sky. Once he reaches his usual place on the moon, he takes out his fishing rod and releases the balloons, which continue to rise until they pop into the "DreamWorks" text.
In the 2010-2018 logo, the Moon Child appears with his fishing rod after the full moon transforms into a crescent moon, and flings the fishing rod around the moon to clear the clouds below and make way for the "DreamWorks" text.
In the 2018-2022 logo, the Moon Child appears in his usual place on the moon as it carves in on a white sphere.
In the 2022- logo, the Moon Child steers the moon through the night sky, and encounters characters from various DreamWorks franchises, in order, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha and Ms. Tarantula from The Bad Guys franchise driving on a planet, a constellation turning into Toothless and Hiccup from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Po and Theodore Templeton respectively from the Kung Fu Panda and The Boss Baby franchises, a portal with the face of Poppy from the Trolls franchise on it which teleports him to the surface, and Shrek, Donkey and Fiona from the Shrek franchise waving at him just before he ascends to his usual place. A variation is introduced in 2023 in which the characters on the floating island are being changed to Alex and Marty from the Madagascar franchise and Eep from the The Croods franchise. The character on the portal, which this time appears to be opened up from another constellation, is also changed to Puss from the Shrek franchise. Another variation, introduced in 2025, features Roz (with Brightbill) from The Wild Robot doing a high-five with Moon Child, replacing the Bad Guys. Gingy also appears in the Shrek sequence.
Gags[]
In Bee Movie, while the Moon Child tries to get rid of Barry, the latter stings him, causing him to lose grip of the balloons and fall onto the top of the moon crescent on his hips then the bottom of the crescent on his forehead. While Moon Child continues to fall, Barry takes his place to sit on the crescent.
In Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, everything goes normal until when a penguin drags the Moon Child through the moon and beats him up, with the penguin quartet appearing on screen immediately after, in which Skipper uses a fishing rod to pull up a fish. The penguin quartet would appear again during the DreamWorks logo in Penguins of Madagascar, where they stand on each other's shoulders while using the same fishing rod.
In Monsters Vs. Aliens, the Moon Child gets abducted by an UFO.
In Home, the Moon Child gets sucked into a tube and the Boov replaces him.
In The Croods, the Moon Child (and the whole logo) is shown as a cave drawing.
In The Boss Baby and its sequel, several of the hangers on a musical cot mobile resemble the Moon Child fishing on the moon.
