Roz: I am not programmed to be a mother.
Pinktail: No one does. We just make it up.
―Pinktail encouraging Roz to adopt Brightbill.

Pinktail is a major character in the film, The Wild Robot. She is a material Virginia opossum who gives Roz some advice on raising Brightbill.

Background[]

Most of the animals on the island are cold and fearful of Roz, but Pinktail is one of the few who actually warms up to the robot quickly. She empathizes with Roz as the robot isn't exactly equipped to nurture young gosling. Being a mother to several other opossums herself, Pinktail helps by giving Roz a quick crash course on how to be a mom.

Official Description[]

Given the fact that she's birthed and raised multiple litters of baby possums, Pinktail knows a thing or two about motherhood. As soon as she sees Brightbill imprinting on Roz, she swings into action, imparting all sorts of parental wisdom on the robot.[1]

Trivia[]

  • She is the only known female character in The Wild Robot (not including Roz and Vontra).
  • The Spanish dub calls her "Zarita" which is usually used as a nickname for the name "Zara".
  • In the Russian-language CIS dubbing, her name is "Шерстинка" (Sherstinka), a derivative of the word "wool".
  • This was Catherine O'Hara's second Dreamworks Animation film, the first was Over the Hedge as Penny.
