Development

Polly the eel was created as a loan shark to let Oscar bring him 5,000 Clams to the seahorse race, but the filmmakers felt like that Polly's inclusion would make the film confusing. Instead, they put his traits into Sykes.

• Polly was intended as the secondary antagonist but was replaced by Sykes.
• Dennis Hopper were deleted a role of Polly the Eel.
