Infoboxes[]
what happen to all the infoboxes with showing their personailities, what they like and don't like, and all that stuff? -Codytlane (talk) 04:24, April 27, 2018 (UTC)
- I removed them last year because people were spending so much time stuffing everything they could into the infobox that there was almost nothing left on the rest of the page. The infobox for Whitey the rat used to be 4-5 times longer than the four sentences that were on the page.
- Think of it this way: In many books, you have a Table of Contents at the front and an index at the end to help you navigate through it. What if you had a book a hundred pages long, with 80% of that being the Table of Contents, 19% being the index, and the other 1% being a single page that said, "Soccer is a sport played by kicking a ball"?
- That wouldn't be a very useful book. The Table of Contents is supposed to give an overview of the topics in the book and the index is supposed to show which pages a topic appears on. Neither one is supposed to replace the rest of the book.
- That's what was happening with the Infoboxes. The Infobox became the book because everyone was just throwing whatever they could into it. Nobody was bothering to show how Marty from Madagascar was funny because "funny" was listed in the Infobox. Nobody was bothering to show how Lola from Shark Tale was sadistic because "sadistic" was in the Infobox. Nobody was showing how Gladys from Over the Hedge was fearful of her job as the head of the homeowner's association because "fearful" was in the Infobox.
- The changes to the Infobox were made because people were abusing the Infobox and it needed to stop. People needed to stop stuffing more and more into them, which turned them into a bloated list of factoids.
