- The Croods is DreamWorks' sixth film to become a franchise, after Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Trolls.
- This also marks DreamWorks Animation's third trilogy to have each installment distributed by a different studio over the years. (20th century distributed the first movie in 2013)
- This is the sixth Franchise in total DreamWorks owns, as Trolls was brought from Dam Things in 2010.
- This is the third DreamWorks Animation sequel not to have its music score composed by the same composer as its predecessor after Penguins of Madagascar (which had its music score composed by Lorne Balfe) and Trolls World Tour (which had its music score composed by Theodore Shapiro); Alan Silvestri composed the music score for the first film while Mark Mothersbaugh takes over for this film (making it the first time the latter has ever composed a music score for a DreamWorks Animation film).
