The dice first appeared at the beginning of the film being used by Tulio and Miguel on dice bets against sailors and cheat them of their money, earning them an lot of gold coins, however when the sailor Zaragoza bets his Map to El Dorado, a reluctant Tulio agrees to to the bet after some persuasion from Miguel, but Zaragoza stops him and demands them to use his own dice, which they do and ironically win fairly.
But when Tulio bends over to pick up his gold and map, his dice fall from his vest and Zaragoza discovers that their dice are loaded and called them out for it in front of the crew, which forced Miguel and Tulio to fake an argument in which they blamed each other for using loaded dice and fought in a sword duel to escape and evade arrest.
Later, when Miguel and Tulio arrive to El Dorado and were mistaken by gods, Chel discovered their ruse but made an agreement with the con men and also pickpockets Tulio's dice off him, which suprises him, and Miguel wonders where she was hiding them.
