Undercover" is the sixth episode of the third season of the DreamWorks•Netflix series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Synopsis[]
The gang breaks into groups to pull off a complicated mission. A run-in at the catacombs leaves Brooklynn questioning her goals… and her methods.
Plot[]
At Gia's house, Ben gives everyone's attention but stops him and wonders where's Sammy and Kenji believes that she is chilling in Gia's room. Darius replied that chilling maybe too strong and thinks she's occupying space at room temperature and Yaz thought it was a mandatory meeting and said it is. Both Ben and Gia brought Sammy up to speed on everything already and Yaz now understands. Darius, Ben and Yaz -- who Ben dubs the Nublar Three -- will drive to the southern tip of Italy and board a ferry to Malta to find Brooklynn with Ben having come up with 30 contingencies for what they might find there. At the same time, Sammy and Kenji -- dubbed the Nublar Two -- will fly back to America with Smoothie to reunite him with Bumpy. Ben and Gia have bought tickets for them and Sammy and Kenji will leave in two days. Gia's neighbor is loaning the Nublar Three his truck and they have a day long drive to the ferry ahead of them.
Later, Ben says an emotional goodbye to Smoothie and Gia, the latter of whom knit him a replacement beanie. Nonna gives Ben some food for the road and he's excited to have finally won her acceptance. Darius worries about if Brooklynn will want to talk to him about how Darius revealed that he was in love with her while Sammy is continuing to avoid Yaz ever since their breakup. Sammy secretly watches them from the window, but chooses not to come out. Yaz leaves a message for Sammy with Kenji and Darius and Ben say goodbye to him with Kenji and Ben even sharing a hug. With still no sign of Sammy, the Nublar Three drive off to find Brooklynn.
In the catacombs, Brooklynn releases Ghost, Tiger, and Panthera, and records a video on her cell phone for potential buyers demonstrating the use of the laser to control the Atrociraptors as a weapon. After taking the chance to touch one of the raptors, Brooklynn sends them back into their cages. Brooklynn receives a message from Ben that her friends are on their way to Malta to meet up with her, but she refuses.
Brooklynn notices Davi nearby taking pictures and confronts him. Davi explains that he had a hunch that something shady was going on down here, but he's still surprised that Biosyn repurposed the catacombs for something even creepier than what they were originally used for. Davi ignores her attempts to get him to leave, finding the raptors and realizing that Brooklynn is investigating the person selling them. Davi tries to get details from Brooklynn about her plans, but she refuses to tell him, insisting that Davi forget about this story and go back to his fashion beat. However, Davi refuses to be dissuaded, calling this a once in a lifetime story. Davi is convinced that it goes beyond dinosaur smuggling and that Biosyn is trying to disrupt the global food supply by using genetically-engineered locusts. Brooklynn reveals that she already knows, having been collecting photos and videos for months, enough to expose the biggest dinosaur smugglers in the world. Davi is impressed by all of the evidence that she's gathered, but dismayed to learn that Brooklynn hasn't made a copy of all of it.
Soyona Santos approaches, forcing Brooklynn to shove Davi into a raptor cage to hide. Santos tells Brooklynn that the potential buyers are getting anxious to see if Santos can deliver on what she's promised. Santos asks to see the video that she made, but Davi has her phone, forcing Brooklynn to claim that she wanted to edit it before showing it to her. Meanwhile, a terrified Davi is trapped in close quarters with Ghost. Santos tells Brooklynn that time is a factor, and she has other assets in transit as they speak. Santos needs to locate the Handler so she can resolve a different matter. Santos wants to give the Handler a chance to redeem herself and prove her loyalty and rejects Brooklynn's offer to handle it instead as the Handler's skillset is much better suited for what the Broker has in mind. Brooklynn manages to sneakily get her phone back from Davi and shows Santos the video that she shot, pleasing Santos who compliments the team that they make.
Brooklynn releases Davi who demands to know how she could put him in there like that and help Santos to sell killer dinosaurs. Brooklynn defends herself by explaining that she's collecting evidence to put the Broker in jail for the rest of her life, but Davi insists that the end doesn't justify the means. Brooklynn, appearing not to realize what she's doing, turns the laser on Davi, sending Ghost after him. Noticing what she did, Brooklynn drops the laser in horror. Davi accuses Brooklynn of selling her soul and runs off, leaving Brooklynn horrified by what's becoming. The raptor touches her hand for a moment with her head before Brooklynn sends Ghost back to her cage with the laser.
At a cafe in Malta, the Nublar Three wait for their friend to arrive. Ben gets a message, but it's just his burner phone wanting to share his location with the manufacturer rather than Brooklynn. Ben suggests that they head into the catacombs instead to look for their friend despite the fact that the catacombs are closed to the public. Darius and Ben attempt to pry open a possible catacomb entrance without success, but the three spot Rio going through a nearby door with a dinosaur in a box and follow him inside. The door leads into the black market where the Nublar Three witness how the dinosaurs are being abused and exploited by the people there. Unable to take it anymore, Darius runs away while Yaz notices the Handler in the crowd, causing her to agree with him.
The Handler discovers that her Atrociraptors have been moved and frantically searches for them without any success. In the catacombs office, Santos tells Brooklynn that the video worked like a charm, and they have a buyer in Riyadh who Santos was able to get to buy Red as well. Brooklynn is surprised as she thought that Santos liked Red, but Santos dismissed Red as simply being a dinosaur and she can easily get a replacement. Brooklynn asks about the buyer's identity and what they need the raptors for, but Santos can only assume that they have a need for what the raptors excel at: killing people. Brooklynn tries to talk the Broker out of selling the raptors by suggesting that they can get a higher price for them by holding out. However, Santos has already agreed to the terms and as Lewis Dodgson has yet to compensate her for either Chuck Desai or the DNA samples, it's money that could do a lot of good.
Santos thanks Brooklynn for helping her to expedite the sale, telling the young woman that she's made Santos' life easier in so many ways. As a token of her appreciation, Santos reveals to Brooklynn that someone has been watching her: Davi. Davi is the target that Santos sent the Handler to kill, but Brooklynn asks if they shouldn't just intimidate him instead. However, Santos tells her that it's different circumstances than Desai as Davi isn't a public figure, only a nobody who is trying to use them and their work to become somebody and neither of them can afford to have anyone prying into their business. Once Santos is gone, Brooklynn takes out her phone and stares at her reflection as she realizes what she's becoming.
On the streets, Ben and Yaz find an out of breath Darius who is traumatized by what he witnessed in the market. Darius tells his friends that every time they stop one horrible thing, another ten pop up and Brooklynn is in deep with these people. While Darius wants to find Brooklynn and protect her if he can, if there's one thing that he knows about Brooklynn it's that she has to do things her way, for better or for worse. If they really want to help, the three of them can't make this about what they think is best for their friend. They are now in Brooklynn's world and they need to follow her lead. Brooklynn knows where to find them and she will come when she's ready.
Returning to the cafe, the Nublar Three are surprised to find Brooklynn there waiting for them, finally ready to accept their help.
