Verne is the star of Over the Hedge. He is an easygoing and overly cautious turtle. He was the only one aware of RJ's scheme to use them to get food. His tail tangles when sometime goes wrong. A running gag in the film is that he is constantly being mistaked for an amphibian. His show is also capable of coming of his body continously showing his butt (another gag in the film). Despite RJ's dangerous antics, he eventually welcolms him into the family.
