“The good people at Universal Dynamics have programmed us to put our targets at ease, so as to more efficiently facilitate their collection. But don't worry. Despite my cheery demeanor, I am unfeeling, inflexible, and morally neutral.”
―Vontra describes herself to Roz.
The Virtual Observational Neutralizing Troublesome Retrieval Authority, abbreviated to Vontra, is the main antagonist in the Dreamworks' flim The Wild Robot. She is the head RECO who was sent by Universal Dynamics to return Roz after she gets stuck in the wilderness.
Vontra first appears in the third act of the film, when she comes to the island via a ship, in order to return Roz to Universal Dynamics. Roz, feeling like her mission about raising Brightbill is complete, voluntarily joins her. Roz is about to go on the ship until Fink tells her that Brightbill wants to talk to her. Vontra tells Roz that they should leave, however, Roz tells her that she forgot something and has to get it, telling a lie right to her face. Vontra realizes that she was lying, and sends out the RECOS.
Official Description[]
Like Roz, Vontra is another robotic entity developed by Universal Dynamics, albeit of a less endearing sort. Described as a machine on the "administrative" side of the operation, Vontra has only one prime directive: evaluate situations and make decisions on behalf of the company that made her. Tasked with retrieving Roz from the island, Vontra hides a ruthless, unfeeling nature underneath a cheery exterior.[1]
